The worst injury I’ve ever suffered while building robots is just a minor burn from my soldering iron, which happens from time to time. I’m very careful to use safety glasses whenever I’m soldering, because I don’t want to get anything hot near my eyes. As a runner, I’ve been very lucky not to have had any serious injuries. I run in what they call a “barefoot” shoe, which has a very flat sole and almost no cushioning. The idea is to encourage the runner to run in a way similar to how we evolved. So far, that principle is working very well for me. Sometimes, when I’ve been running very hard (like racing a marathon) I get a few aches and pains. Those are a normal part of running and I just try to be listen carefully to what my body is telling me and not overdo it when my feet and legs might be vulnerable.
